Towing device

A slim drawbar makes for a tight turning circle and, in turn, an ultra-compact vehicle. With a wide range of different hole patterns available, we can provide all tow hitches.

  • Cushions jolts on poor roads for a smoother ride
  • Designed with rubber silent blocks that have good inherent damping
  • By simply switching over the locking pins, multiple trailer heights can be set (55 to 90 cm with standard tyres)
  • The vehicle is equipped with a bottom hitch coupling, this results in much better handling and improved road safety

Small turning circle

The slim design of the drawbar makes for a very large steering angle and significantly reduces the turning circle. With the optional positive steering, the adjustable collision protection guard can be tailored to the tractor.

Chassis

For our chassis we use only rectangular tubing made of high-grade steel that is sealed all round; no cheap pressed steel or welded constructions. The large-volume rectangular tubing saves weight, is extremely torsion-resistant and has no open joints or cracks, making it easy to clean. Visually too, it makes a good, clean and neat impression.

Running gear Pivoting unit

An offroad pivoting unit with large swing angle is fitted on all sand and gravel tippers. This tried-and-trusted and robust running gear with asymmetrical offset axles makes for a stable presence on the construction site. The front axle carries less weight than the rear axle, and the pivot point of the pendulum swing is very low-set. This unit is very easy to pull and thanks to the optimum weight distribution, the front axle does not “get buried” on heavy-going terrain. The unsprung version ensures very good stability while tipping. The sophisticated design of the pendulum axle support (beams made from round tubing and the square axle is installed “upright”) ensures that dirt does not stick due to the self-cleaning effect.

Axles

BPW axles with automatic slack adjusters, axle cross-section 150 x 150 mm, track width 1.95 m, wheel brake 410 x 180 mm, 10-hole wheel end 13.0 t single axle load at 40 km/h

Tipping cylinder

Large telescopic cylinder, held with a gimbal ring  that absorbs all torsion from the cylinder during tipping

Gimbal ring/Cylinder suspension

The telescopic cylinder is mounted in a gimbal ring. In this way, tension during the tipping process is prevented as the cylinder is extended. The upper ball socket of the telescopic cylinder is not secured with a simple snap ring, but with a very robust screw connection.

Belly strap

The belly strap transfers the forces produced during tipping from the underbody structure to the top frame. The belly strap is welded all-round, preventing an ingress of moisture. The side panels are manufactured from a single piece. Maximum stability is obtained thanks to the multiple folding of the metal sheets. The top frame is made from all-round sealed rectangular tubing 80 x 100 mm and neatly and robustly seals off the body.

Tipping bearings with brass bushes

With the BigBody Tandem models, Krampe has been using tipping bearings with cut bolts and replaceable brass bushes for over 30 years now. These bearings are positioned directly at the end point of the rectangular tubing on the chassis. This allows the resulting torque to be effectively absorbed by the torsionally rigid chassis. This design ensures a precisely guided pivot point with minimal play and an optimal transfer of power.

In contrast to this, some manufacturers in this vehicle segment use ball bearings with locking pins. Due to the design, this leads to a large amount of bearing play as the locking pins do not lie directly in the ball bearings. Even a larger distance between the bearings cannot compensate for this disadvantage.

Lighting system

High-end 3-chamber rear lights with impact-resistant lens; all lights feature LEDs; secured by a stable light support with “pitched roof” to prevent the accumulation of dirt.

HD Carrier body

The striking body stands out with its modern design

  • Front wall hood to protect against stone impacts
  • Robust, removable access ladder below the body
  • Conical body (10 cm wider at the rear), ideal when dealing with “sticking” cargo
  • Side panels manufactured from a single piece, 5 mm thick, material HARDOX 450
  • The completely smooth inner walls make it easier for the load to slide
  • Multiple folding makes for maximum stability
  • Metal floor panel made from a single sheet, 6 mm thick, heavily ribbed at the bottom, HARDOX 450
  • Robust upper body section in the shape of a pitched roof ensures good self-cleaning
  • Flat metal floor panel, clean internal width well over 2.00 m, ideal for transporting cargo and easy to clean or unload with an excavator bucket
  • Heavy-duty rubber supports between tipping platform and chassis

Pivoting hydraulic tailgate

The pivoting hydraulic tailgate was specially developed for Krampe’s heavy-duty tippers. By briefly lifting the tailgate, it is unlocked and the pendulum function is released. This enables a rapid unloading of sand or gravel. Once the tailgate is open, the pivoting rear wall can move up/backwards. This means that even massive boulders and trees stumps can easily pass through the tailgate while the side linkages are protected from overloading.

During the design phase, great importance was placed on ensuring that the tailgate and side linkages were flush with the body. This minimises the risk of damage being caused during loading. In addition, the sharp edges of the tailgate ensure an effective self-cleaning by stopping sand and dirt from settling.
