Sturdy body construction

The BigBody body is the result of continuous optimisations and precise adjustments. Thanks to the particularly narrow tailgate suspension, an optimal load capacity can be achieved. The horizontal edging ensures maximum rigidity of the 1.52 m-high side panels. Both the side panels and floor plate are made from a single piece, which significantly reduces the number of welds and cavities.

The underbody was also designed with a focus on maximum stability: Robust cross braces between the massive beams provide additional reinforcement for the floor plate. This structure can even be used to transport heavy material such as topsoil with ease.

Durable top frame

The top frame fulfils two essential functions: It gives the body more stability and effectively dissipates the forces generated by the belly strap. To meet these requirements, the top frame is made from large rectangular tubes (100 x 80 mm) and continuously welded. The result is an extremely stable construction that also offers optimal corrosion protection.

Efficient unloading

The conical form of the body (10 cm wider at the back than at the front) facilitates a smooth tipping of the load. In addition, the smooth side panels and floor plate, both of which are manufactured from a single piece of metal, facilitate  the easy tipping of the transported cargo.

A practical viewing window with a cover plate (plexiglass) both come as standard.

Towing device

A slim drawbar makes for a tight turning circle and, in turn, an ultra-compact vehicle. With a wide range of different hole patterns available, we can provide all tow hitches.

  • Cushions jolts on poor roads for a smoother ride
  • Designed with rubber silent blocks that have good inherent damping
  • By simply switching over the locking pins, multiple trailer heights can be set (55 to 90 cm with standard tyres)
  • The vehicle is equipped with a bottom hitch coupling, this results in much better handling and improved road safety

Small turning circle

The slim design of the drawbar makes for a very large steering angle and significantly reduces the turning circle. With the optional positive steering, the adjustable collision protection guard can be tailored to the tractor.

Chassis

For our chassis we use only rectangular tubing made of high-grade steel that is sealed all round; no cheap pressed steel or welded constructions. The large-volume rectangular tubing saves weight, is extremely torsion-resistant and has no open joints or cracks, making it easy to clean. Visually too, it makes a good, clean and neat impression.

Running gear 24 t parabolic suspension

Parabolic suspension with 24 t load-bearing capacity. With a widened spring centre to guarantee optimum stability. The spring packages are always fitted on the axles to provide large ground clearance.

Axles

BPW axles with automatic slack adjusters, axle cross-section 120 x 120 mm, track width 1.95 m, wheel brake 410 x 120 mm, 10-hole wheel end 10.0 t single axle load at 40 km/h

Tipping cylinder

Large telescopic cylinder, held with a gimbal ring  that absorbs all torsion from the cylinder during tipping

BigBody body

The load capacity has been optimised thanks to the curved design of the side panels and the extremely narrow structure of the side linkages. The inside of the body is 8 cm wider than the previous model. The side panels  (4 mm thick) and the metal floor panel are each made from a single piece. Folding optimises the rigidity of the material. At the same time, the number of welds and cavities are reduced.

The top frame made of large rectangular tubing 100 x 80 mm is flush at the top. The all-round “belly strap” transfers the forces produced to the robust top frame. The frame is welded all-round, eliminating the chance of rusting.

By getting rid of unnecessary stanchions, the BigBody stands out with its stylish looks, while also reducing its tare weight. The body height is 1.52 m, and the conical bridge (10 cm narrower at the front) makes it easier for the load to slide off. The beams of the body are made from solid rectangular tubing and are sealed on all sides, making them easy to clean. The entire underfloor is heavily ribbed, which means that the vehicle can also transport heavy material such as topsoil with ease. An inspection window with a cover plate is provided as standard.

The hydraulic tailgate developed by KRAMPE with automatic closure at the bottom is included as standard. The cylinders of the hydraulic tailgate are retracted into the transport position. The side mudguards are bolted and the steep configuration prevents loads from building up at these points. Besides the usual silage extensions, a variety of other special equipment is available.

Gimbal ring/Cylinder suspension

The telescopic cylinder is mounted in a gimbal ring. In this way, tension during the tipping process is prevented as the cylinder is extended. The upper ball socket of the telescopic cylinder is not secured with a simple snap ring, but with a very robust screw connection.

Belly strap

The belly strap transfers the forces produced during tipping from the underbody structure to the top frame. The belly strap is welded all-round, preventing an ingress of moisture. The side panels are manufactured from a single piece. Maximum stability is obtained thanks to the multiple folding of the metal sheets. The top frame is made from all-round sealed rectangular tubing 80 x 100 mm and neatly and robustly seals off the body.

Tipping bearings with brass bushes

With the BigBody Tandem models, Krampe has been using tipping bearings with cut bolts and replaceable brass bushes for over 30 years now. These bearings are positioned directly at the end point of the rectangular tubing on the chassis. This allows the resulting torque to be effectively absorbed by the torsionally rigid chassis. This design ensures a precisely guided pivot point with minimal play and an optimal transfer of power.

In contrast to this, some manufacturers in this vehicle segment use ball bearings with locking pins. Due to the design, this leads to a large amount of bearing play as the locking pins do not lie directly in the ball bearings. Even a larger distance between the bearings cannot compensate for this disadvantage.

Lighting system

High-end 3-chamber rear lights with impact-resistant lens; all lights feature LEDs; secured by a stable light support with “pitched roof” to prevent the accumulation of dirt.

Hydraulic tailgate

A hydraulically operated tailgate with automatic closure and integrated cut-off valve is a must for any modern body tipper. A typical innovation from Krampe that many market competitors have now also adopted. A simple bit of kit that is extremely effective! The two locking hooks automatically open and release the tailgate when it is tilted. To close the tailgate, this process is done in reverse: the tailgate lowers, the locking hooks slide back into place and press the tailgate over the curved track and onto the trailer side. The hydraulic cylinders are retracted when the tailgate is closed on BigBody tippers. The side pivot bearings in the lift arm do not protrude above the upper edge of the top frame, but are flush with it instead. This eliminates the risk of them being damaged during loading.
